For me, the lyrics — in the form of poems — came before the music. I didn’t watch much TV back in high school, so I had ample opportunity to write during the cold winter months in metro Detroit, where I grew up. I recall being particularly inspired by the rhyming of Edgar Allen Poe and Robert Frost.

In college, I minored in creative writing at a place known for its literary persuasion: MIT. Besides dabbling in playwriting and winning a couple of writing awards, I also got a shabby old acoustic guitar from my sister and started playing with friends. That’s when the music started.

For over seven years, I played acoustic guitar and electric bass for church bands in Massachusetts, Arizona, and California. I had the fortune of playing with and learning from many talented musicians. After growing up on pop and new wave, I developed a sensibility for folk, blues, bluegrass, and fingerstyle guitar while living in Arizona.

After moving to the San Francisco Bay Area, I started working little by little on an album which I eventually released as When So Late Becomes So Early in 2004. With some friends, I also formed a band, Ergo Nada, and played gigs in the Bay Area off and on for a couple of years.

I recently finished graduate school at the University of California at Berkeley and am now back to work on some new music.
